Overview

The Record Browser window shows the data after it has been imported into TMG to GEDCOM. The view shows the data in a bare-bones format. It is intended to show how TMG to GEDCOM has transformed the data during the import process. That may be useful when investigating why the output doesn't appear the way you expect.

Choose a person by entering an ID number in the ID textbox. You may also use the Picklist button to choose a person.

After you enter a valid person ID, TMG to GEDCOM will display a textual representation of the person's information.

Use the Edit > Find command to find text of interest.

Use the View > Show Attributes and View > Show Citations commands to show or hide attributes and citations.

Items of interest:

  • George Smith, M, L=N/Flag, #2 (b. 16 May 1781, d. After 7 Jun 1821)

The first line of the entry provides a brief summary of the person including:

    • living status, ("L=N/Flag"),,
    • ID number, ("#2"),
    • and lifespan, ("b. 16 May 1781, d. After 7 Jun 1821")

See the People help page for an explanation of the living status.

  • Family:
    Father* Frederick Smith (#16)

There may be several "family" sections, each one showing the members of a family. The subject's parents and siblings, if any, will appear in one family, and the subject will appear there as a child (son or daughter). There will be a family entry for each of the subject's marriages and/or partners with whom the subject shares a child, and the subject will appear there as a parent (mother or father).

An asterisk ("*") after the role label indicates the relationship is primary for the given person.

There will a "Tag" entry for each of the subject's names and events.

The tag's label appears after the prefix "Tag=" as in "Tag=Baptism".

The tag type's group appears after the prefix "Group=" as in "Group=Birth".

The tag's date and sort date appear after "Date=" and "SortDate=", respectively.

Dates include a suffix, either "(D)" or "(T)".

    • D means the value is recognized as a Date; the value may be used in date processing such as sorting or calculating a person's age at the time of an event.
    • T means the value is not recognized as a date, but instead is treated as Text; the value is not used in date processing.

Tags with missing dates or text-only dates will sort to the top of a list sorted by date.
